I think that Dave's Cartoon Blog version of my filing system just about sums up my day/ week/ month/ year/ six-years-of-freelancing so far...

And to prove it, and simultaneously shame myself, here's a shot of my desk from this morning (looking tidier than normal I have to say)...



Desk contents: box of headed paper/ comp slips, three project files, box of misc cards/ stickers/ notes/ flyers, pen pot, two dirty mugs, one dirty bowl, postal scales, receipts/ finances file, jar of chocolate spread, my lunch, a request for information relating to non-domestic rates, my to do list, several pads of post-its, three small piles of things that are vaguely pending, my palm, my telephone and of course all my PC paraphenalia...

In short: too much stuff.

There is a great review of Nexus on Manchester Confidential. I think that my favorite quote is this one:

'don’t expect a bible bash with your pie and mash. It’s just there if you want it, hence the spirituality evenings on Wednesdays at 7.30pm'

The spirituality evenings are, of course, Sanctus1.

The 'Fallen Utopia' exhibition has been up for a week now in Nexus. It's got some great pieces in it and I'd really encourage you to drop by.

Here are a few images of the art work. I think that my favourite piece is the dress, it's called 'Pinning Hopes and Dreams' and by an Artist called Lisa Barry. People are invited to pin their hopes and dreams to the dress.

Sometimes,
when I feel like
life's going too quickly,
my head's spinning,
stuff is only just in my control,
things are just getting out of my reach...

it's good to slow down and make the effort to

a walk round the block,
or ten minutes sitting in the park does it.

Fallen Utopia is the new exhibition in Nexus, it opens on Thursday.

14 artists have come together to exhibit their work in response to the theme 'Fallen Utopia'. Work includes urban art, video, installation, photography, sound installation and painted work.

Artists include Dudie Amor, Kolyn Amor, Victoria Ashworth, Richard Joel Bannister, Lisa Barry, Nicholas Blaney, Giles Corby, Sara Davies, Rachel Daws, Alicia Morley, Meryck Paine, Rose Palmer, Durgesh Srivastrava, Sarah Stamp.

The first artist to exhibit in our new installation space is Peter Hiett, his piece is entitled "864-2008 in red"

It's been very quiet round here for a while now - where is everyone, and what have you been up to? It would be great to hear that you're still out there and what the highlights of the holidays have been for you.

Last week, as part of the service, we used the Examen questions to think about 2007 and 2008, and made our origami birds with our hopes and dreams for this year written inside. It was a lovely and poignant way to start the year as a community.
