Enough

' He [David Davis] could face opposition from the Sun newspaper, whose former editor Kelvin MacKenzie said he may stand, backed by Rupert Murdoch, if Labour did not field a candidate.

Mr MacKenzie told the BBC earlier there were two reasons for running: "One is that the Sun is very, very hostile to David Davis because of his 28-day stand, and the Sun has always been up for 42 days, or perhaps even 420 days, frankly." '

Surely if no-one puts a candidate against him it makes it quite a pointless by-election? I can understand why Labour might decide not to, because if they did and lost Davis could argue that this showed people were against 42 days. Everyone is trying to sound like they aren't standing against him out of respect for him and his principles, but surely if that's the case they should stand..?

Labour are the only ones that could reasonably defeat him - and given their current showing in the polls that's extremely unlikely. The Lib Dems agree with him... and the Sun are just standing for publicity (I don't think 'Vote Murdoch' is going to go down to well).

This is great publiity for the Monster Raving Loony Party, who as things stand are the only confirmed opposition for Davis' seat. They are for 42 days, incidentally. Imagine if they defeated him...
